"description": "
About Strava Strava is the app for active people. With over 200 million athletes in more than 185 countries, it’s more than tracking workouts—it’s where people make progress together, from new habits to new personal bests. No matter your sport or how you track it, Strava’s got you covered. Find your crew, crush your goals, and make every effort count. Start your journey with Strava today. Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward. About This Role We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Data Team and help build reliable, scalable data systems that support analytics, data science, and critical business use cases across Strava. In this role, you will design and operate data pipelines, build high-quality domain data models, improve our dbt and data transformation workflows, and help ensure data is accurate, well-governed, and easy to use. You will also contribute to areas such as data ingestion, data quality, privacy and GDPR workflows, and the ongoing evolution of our data warehouse and data lake. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week. What You’ll Do: Design, build, and operate foundational data systems and shared data assets that serve a broad range of analytical, operational, and business use cases across Strava. Build and evolve scalable data ingestion and transformation frameworks that move, process, clean, standardize, and organize data across our data lake and data warehouse. Develop reusable data engineering tools and abstractions that improve how engineers build and operate data pipelines, including frameworks and capabilities around technologies such as dbt. Design high-quality, durable domain data models — such as user, subscription, activity, or other core business domains — that provide consistent definitions and reusable foundations for teams across the company. Build systems and workflows that support data governance, privacy, and regulatory requirements, including GDPR-related deletion, retention, access, and data lifecycle management. Improve the reliability and observability of our data platform through automated testing, data quality checks, lineage, monitoring, alerting, and operational tooling. Optimize large-scale data processing and storage for performance, maintainability, scalability, and cost across both warehouse and data lake environments. Partner with data engineers, analytics engineers, software engineers, data scientists, security, privacy, and infrastructure teams to establish scalable data architecture and engineering standards. You will be successful here by: Thinking beyond individual pipelines and designing reusable systems, abstractions, and data models that solve common problems across multiple teams and use cases. Building well-defined domain data assets with clear semantics, ownership, lineage, and interfaces so downstream consumers can confidently build on top of them. Applying strong data modeling principles to represent complex business entities and relationships in ways that are extensible, understandable, and efficient. Maintaining a high bar for data correctness, reliability, privacy, and operational excellence across critical production data systems. Making thoughtful engineering tradeoffs across data freshness, scalability, storage, compute cost, complexity, and developer productivity. Proactively identifying recurring pain points in the data development lifecycle and creating tooling or platform capabilities that eliminate manual work and improve engineering velocity. Designing data systems with governance and regulatory requirements in mind, rather than treating privacy and compliance as downstream concerns. Bringing software engineering discipline to data infrastructure through testing, modular design, version control, CI/CD, observability, documentation, and code review. What You’ll Bring to the Team: You have 3–5+ years of professional experience in Data Engineering, Data Infrastructure, Software Engineering, or a related field , with experience owning production data systems. You have strong expertise in SQL and data modeling , including experience designing dimensional, normalized, or domain-oriented data models for large-scale analytical systems. You have experience building and operating ETL/ELT and data processing systems using technologies such as dbt, Airflow, Spark , or similar frameworks. You have experience developing reusable tooling, frameworks, or abstractions that improve how data pipelines and transformations are built, tested, deployed, or operated. You are proficient in at least one general-purpose programming language such as Python, Scala, Java, or Go and are comfortable applying software engineering principles to data systems. You understand modern data warehouse and data lake architectures and have worked with technologies such as Snowflake, Databricks, BigQuery, Redshift, Iceberg, Delta Lake , or similar systems. You have experience processing and transforming large datasets, including handling schema evolution, data normalization, deduplication, backfills, incremental processing, and data quality. You understand data governance and data lifecycle concepts such as lineage, retention, deletion, access control, PII handling, and GDPR/privacy requirements . You have experience implementing production-grade data quality, monitoring, alerting, testing, and observability for data pipelines and datasets. You can independently reason about data architecture and make sound technical decisions around modeling, ingestion, transformation, storage, reliability, scalability, and maintainability. You are comfortable working with cloud infrastructure such as AWS, GCP, or Azure and understand the infrastructure that supports large-scale data processing systems. Experience with Kafka, Flink or other streaming systems; Kubernetes; Iceberg or other open table formats; data catalogs and lineage systems; schema management; CDC; or internal developer platforms for data engineering is a plus. We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager II to support the Strava for Business initiatives. As Senior Technical Program Manager, you'll own the technical program execution that turns SfB's roadmap into shipped, reliable capabilities, keeping cross-functional work across engineering, product, and business stakeholders scoped, sequenced, and on track. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week. What You'll Do Drive concurrent cross-team programs within Strava for Business, from scoping through delivery. Own the operating cadence (planning, standups, and reviews) for your programs. Act as the first line of defense for incoming requests, triaging and sequencing across engineering and business stakeholders. Surface risks and trade-offs early, before they become blockers. Partner daily with SfB engineering managers, PMs, and business/partnerships stakeholders, coordinating across the broader Strava prod-dev org where dependencies exist. Stand up and tighten intake/triage processes so the team ships predictably. What We're Looking For 6+ years of program management experience Proven track record leading cross-functional programs in a business/GTM/sales org. Strong independent triage and prioritization skills — comfortable scoping, sequencing, and unblocking under ambiguity, without hand-holding. Enough technical fluency to earn engineering trust: can follow the stack in your focus area, challenge assumptions, spot gotchas, and know when to escalate. "title": "Retention Marketing Manager, GTM & Feature Adoption ",
        "description": "
About This Role Strava's Retention team is responsible for reinforcing ongoing subscription value, from renewal to feature adoption, through lifecycle marketing and experimentation. As Product's GTM velocity has grown, so has the need for a dedicated bridge between Product Marketing (PMM) and Lifecycle Marketing, so that new launches can be supported by one-off activations, as well as integrated into lifecycle programs. This role owns that bridge. You'll represent Retention across GTM alignment forums with PMM, MarTech, and Data, translating GTM briefs into scoped plans, targetable audiences, and experiment designs, and project managing each launch from creative handover through post-campaign analysis. You'll partner closely with individual lifecycle marketers to route GTM opportunities into existing lifecycle programs where it makes sense, and to build new, repeatable ones where it doesn't. You're the first dedicated hire in this new pod, so you'll be hands-on from day one: running launches end to end, building them yourself in our martech stack, and shaping the first working version of the playbook as you go. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco or New York City office, three days per week. What You'll Do: Represent Retention in ongoing GTM alignment forums across PMM, MarTech, and Data, owning brief intake and early-stage scoping so success metrics are defined before a GTM kicks off. Drive the GTM channel strategy and experimentation plan end to end: align stakeholders, confirm launch dates and experimentation design, review first-round creative, and manage the project from creative handover through post-campaign analysis. Translate GTM briefs into targetable audience lists, partnering with MarTech to identify what's available and close data gaps, so PMM can size launches accurately. Design and run incremental A/B tests on GTM campaigns, defining success metrics and mapping results against PMM's and Retention's learning agendas. Meet regularly with lifecycle marketers to understand their quarterly goals and surface GTM opportunities in that context, handing off strategic ownership on higher-tier programs to the marketer who owns that history, and owning execution directly on lower-tier tests. Bridge Product Engineering, PMM, and MarTech tooling (Iterable, Braze, Kevel) to enable the right data into comms systems, and build, QA, and launch GTM campaigns in our martech stack. Apply PMM's tiering structure to run launches consistently, log results against a shared benchmark set so comparing campaigns stops being one-off reporting, and informs how the next launch gets scoped. Support seasonal and brand-led campaigns (e.g., major marathon upsells, gifting and family plan moments, back-to-school promotions) with owned-channel strategy and execution. What You'll Bring to the Team: 4-6 years of hands-on experience across growth, lifecycle, or product marketing, with fluency in both worlds: you can shape briefs collaboratively with PMM and connect GTMs into existing lifecycle programs A track record of designing and running experiments: defining success metrics, structuring fair tests, and translating results into clear recommendations. Excellent project management skills: you can manage multiple concurrent launches end to end and keep cross-functional partners aligned on timelines and dependencies. Experience partnering with data or engineering teams to translate marketing briefs into targetable audiences and flag data gaps early. A builder's mindset: you're motivated by setting something up from scratch and improving it launch over launch. Hands-on experience building and QAing campaigns in marketing automation or ad-serving platforms (such as Iterable, Braze, or Kevel). Familiarity with subscription or freemium business models is a plus. How This Role Grows The role is deliberately hands-on to start: you'll be running launches, building them yourself, and finding out what works. As the pod matures, so does the scope — from running each launch yourself to owning the system others run them through. That means codifying how GTMs get executed and measured, turning one-off activations into a repeatable playbook, and holding senior relationships across Product and PMM directly. It's a path we've mapped rather than implied, and part of why we're hiring this role now rather than later. For more information on benefits, please click here . Why Join Us? Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward. About This Role We're looking for a Director, Strategic Sourcing & Procurement to stand up the Procurement function at Strava! You will be the person who designs all of it: the operating model, the commercial strategy, the systems—and then runs it. This is a unique opportunity for those passionate about creating systems and processes from scratch. A key part of this role will be personally negotiating our largest agreements and carrying a savings target agreed with FP&A. You should feel confident bringing analytical rigor to commercial negotiations, know how to restructure a deal to achieve multiple objectives, and be comfortable holding a position despite pushback from senior stakeholders. The majority of your work will be infrastructure spend and B2B SaaS. But the scope of responsibility covers all material areas of spend, including agencies and professional services. This role reports to the General Counsel and is based in our San Francisco office. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week. What You'll Do: Stand up the Procurement function, defining the operating model, policy, thresholds, and decision rights that govern how Strava buys. Build and lead the team, starting by hiring and developing a Manager, Procurement Operations, and shaping how the function grows from there. Own a named portfolio of our largest agreements, leading negotiations personally and holding accountability for commercial outcomes. Carry a hard savings target, with a baseline methodology agreed with FP&A. Establish renewal calendar discipline across the portfolio, engaging early enough on major agreements to create genuine leverage. Develop a negotiation playbook, benchmarking approach, and escalation criteria. Partner with Legal on contracting, Finance on budget and savings validation, and IT and Security on vendor review, keeping all tracks running in parallel rather than in series. Drive vendor rationalization across the long tail, identifying overlap, underused licenses, and consolidation opportunities. Give leadership clear, credible visibility into what we spend, with whom, and what we're getting for it. What You'll Bring to the Team: The instinct of a builder. You are energized rather than daunted by an empty org chart and an undefined process. Genuine commercial rigor. You treat a negotiation as an enjoyable analytical problem and know how to strategically leverage every position. Judgment and standing to hold a position under pressure, and the relationship skills to do so without becoming an obstacle people route around. Proactively spotting potential issues and taking initiative to resolve them, understanding that \"nothing is somebody else's problem.\" A collaborative, no-task-is-beneath-me approach to your work. Professionalism without ego. Requirements: 10+ years experience building a procurement or strategic sourcing function Substantial experience negotiating enterprise B2B SaaS and technology agreements, with a demonstrable record of Finance-validated commercial improvement. People management experience, including hiring, developing, and retaining team members. Fluency translating spend data into a commercial narrative for executive audiences. Exposure to public company or pre-IPO purchasing controls, segregation of duties, and audit requirements. Confidence using modern tools and systems (e.g., Zip, Ironclad, Slack, Notion, AI) to amplify impact. For more information on benefits, please click here . Why Join Us? Movement brings us together. You'll drive major modernization efforts across critical services, partner with product teams to ensure platform capabilities are ready when they need them, and shape how we approach social platform development for years to come. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco or Denver office — three days per week. What You’ll Do: Set the technical direction for Strava's social platform services and build the roadmap that balances long-term architectural investments with near-term product delivery. Act as tech lead for a small pod of engineers, facilitating team processes like quarterly planning, sprint ceremonies, and cross-team coordination. Solve tough technical problems and lead small teams to execute those solutions, even if it means stepping outside your usual domain. Drive modernization and migration efforts for critical platform services, evolving our stack to meet the needs of the product roadmap and Strava's growing athlete base. Partner with product teams to inform the roadmap to proactively identify upcoming needs and have the right capabilities available at the right time. Own a strategy for technical investment across the social domain, ensuring critical services meet reliability, performance, and cost standards. Design, build, and review the systems that back Strava's most-used social features, working across Ruby, Scala, Go, MySQL, Redis, Cassandra, Kafka, and Kubernetes. Mentor engineers on the pod and across the Strava tech team. What You’ll Bring to the Team: 10+ years of professional backend/server engineering experience, with a track record of setting technical direction. Experience leading technical projects involving multiple engineers: scoping work, breaking it down, coordinating delivery across a team. Experience acting as a tech lead, facilitating team processes and driving roadmaps. Strong system design skills for distributed systems at scale: making architecture decisions, defending trade-offs, and thinking about how a system needs to evolve over multiple years. Proficiency in at least one of Strava's backend languages (Ruby, Scala, Go, Java) with comfort picking up others. Experience with distributed systems technologies like Kafka, Kubernetes, Docker, and cloud infrastructure (AWS). Experience with relational and NoSQL databases in production (we use MySQL, Redis, and Cassandra). A genuine interest in leading the team to prioritize the right work, and deliver it well. You’re interested in more than just putting your head down on an assigned project. We're not looking for 100% coverage on all of these — if you match most of them, we'd love to hear from you: Experience with feed systems, social graphs, or recommendation/ranking systems. Experience with large-scale system migrations (e.g., moving a critical service from one language/framework to another). Familiarity with server-driven UI patterns. "description": "
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data Products team at Strava. The Data Products team sits at the core of Strava's AI strategy, turning Strava's unique community and activity data into reliable, reusable, enriched datasets that power experiences across the app. The team operates at the intersection of data engineering, ML platform engineering, and server engineering, building the pipelines and platform layer that let our proprietary embeddings, algorithms, and models reach athletes at scale. As a Senior Data Engineer, you'll build and operate the pipelines and access layer that turn raw data, algorithms, and models into production-ready data products used across the app. You'll work closely with ML engineers, data scientists, and product teams to ship data products with strong reliability, freshness, and clear contracts, and you'll contribute to the self-serve tools that make these products easier for other teams to build on. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week. What You’ll Do: Build for a Well Loved Consumer Product : Work at the intersection of Geo and fitness to launch and optimize product experiences that will be used by tens of millions of active people worldwide Build and Operate Data Products: Develop and maintain the pipelines, APIs, and platform tooling that expose Strava's derived data products, including embeddings, ranking artifacts, clustering outputs, and enriched activity streams, as reliable, well-documented internal products. Contribute to Self-Serve Tooling: Build components of the self-serve interfaces and golden paths that let product and CUJ engineering teams use core data products without deep ML or data engineering expertise. Own End-to-End Data Product Delivery: Drive projects end-to-end, from pipeline design and artifact schema through production deployment and monitoring, ensuring correctness, freshness, and reliability of the data products you own. Collaborate Across ML, Data Engineering, and Product: Work closely with ML engineers on integrating model outputs into durable, versioned artifacts; partner with Data Platform on compute patterns and cost efficiency; inform product teams on how to consume and leverage these capabilities. Build from a rich dataset : Explore and use Strava’s extensive unique fitness and geo datasets from millions of users to extract actionable insights, inform product decisions, and optimize existing features You Will Be Successful Here By: Treating Data Products as Products: Bringing engineering rigor, versioning, contracts, SLAs, monitoring, and deprecation paths to data artifacts and ML insights you own, so downstream teams can depend on them. Owning Your Work End-to-End: Taking accountability for the reliability and correctness of the systems you build in production and their adoption by downstream teams, while staying aware of adjacent workstreams so dependencies and timing don’t stall the team’s momentum. Collaborating Across Disciplines: Working fluidly with ML engineers, data engineers, data scientists, and product managers to align on artifact semantics, evaluation standards, and consumption patterns. Contributing to the Standard: Helping establish best practices for data product development and operational health, and mentoring junior and mid-level engineers on the team. You love to stay current on emerging practices in backend and data engineering and apply them pragmatically, favoring what actually moves the team forward over novelty for its own sake. Being passionate about the work you are doing and contributing positively to Strava's inclusive and collaborative team culture and values. What You’ll Bring to the Team: Experience building and operating complex, data-intensive backend systems in production at scale, with a track record of breaking large technical problems into well-scoped, executable work. Demonstrated experience building access layers, platform tooling, or internal developer products ideally for large scale data or ML systems with a strong instinct for contract design, versioning, and self-serve patterns. Experience building and maintaining production data pipelines and batch/stream workflows using technologies like Spark, Kafka, Flink, Iceberg, Snowflake, or similar. Proficiency in backend service development on cloud environments (AWS preferred), using Python, Scala, Go, or equivalent. Solid understanding of distributed systems and containerized infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker). Comfort taking technical ownership within a project or team: making design trade-offs, coordinating with collaborators, and mentoring junior engineers and peers. Eagerness to engage with ML concepts such embeddings, classification outputs, model evaluation, GenAI integrations. Bonus points if you are already an ML practitioner. Strong communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional partners. For more information on benefits, please click here . Why Join Us? "description": "
About This Role Strava's AI/ML team builds the intelligence that shapes what each athlete sees and experiences — from ranking and recommendations to the next generation of generative AI features across the app. As we deepen our investment in AI-powered products, we're looking for a Staff PM to own the strategy for ranking, recommendations, and personalization: a high-impact surface with significant value to unlock. In this role, you'll define the product vision for personalization across Strava's core experiences, partner deeply with ML engineering and data science to turn model capabilities into products athletes love, and contribute to Strava's broader generative AI strategy. You'll operate with a high degree of autonomy, set direction for a domain, and work across Product, Engineering, and Design to bring the most important bets to life. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office, three days per week. What You'll Do Define and own the domain strategy and roadmap for ranking, recommendations, and personalization across Strava's core athlete experiences. Identify and prioritize high-value GenAI and ML product opportunities across the app, and build a pipeline of bets that connect to company-level priorities. Partner closely with ML engineering and data science to translate model capabilities, evaluation criteria, and technical trade-offs into clear, shippable product decisions. Build and drive experimentation and measurement frameworks that demonstrably improve relevance, engagement, and athlete outcomes. Align stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and Design on strategy and priorities, resolving ambiguity and keeping complex initiatives moving. Contribute to the broader AI/ML product strategy, including identifying where generative AI can meaningfully improve the athlete experience across Strava's surfaces. What You'll Bring to the Team Substantial product management experience, including meaningful time shipping ML-powered products such as ranking, recommendations, personalization, search, or feeds at scale. Deep fluency in modern ML and generative AI — enough to engage substantively with engineers and data scientists on models, evaluation, and data pipelines, and to make sound product trade-offs. A track record of owning domain-level strategy end-to-end, not just executing within a defined roadmap. Strong experimentation and measurement instincts, with demonstrated ability to use data to drive measurable improvements in relevance and engagement. The ability to align and influence senior stakeholders across functions without authority, and to bring clarity to complex, ambiguous problem spaces. Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward. About This Role The Data Science team at Strava works across the organization to find solutions to the highest-leverage, and often the most challenging, problems facing the business. We use machine learning, causal inference, and measurement systems to synthesize Strava’s unique data assets into models, metrics, and recommendations that our leadership team can act on with confidence. We are looking for a Data Scientist to join the Data Products team at Strava, a team at the core of Strava’s AI strategy, responsible for turning Strava's unique community and activity data into reliable, reusable, enriched datasets powering user experiences at scale. This is a strategic individual contributor role that will partner closely with a growing team of Machine Learning Engineers. You'll drive the team’s measurement strategy and define the development feedback loop— defining evaluation standards, surfacing where performance is breaking down, and steering the team toward the highest-impact opportunities. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week. What You’ll Do: Define what \"good\" looks like for Strava's internal models and the ML products built on top of it, setting the evaluation frameworks, offline and online metrics, and quality bars the team steers by. Build the measurement layer for cross-domain ML products, scaling the org’s visibility into performance across the business Own experimentation and monitoring for production models and contribute to monitoring of key metrics and drift detection for enriched datasets, ensuring quality for downstream athlete-facing experiences. Identify and size AI/ML product opportunities, translating ambiguous problem spaces into scoped initiatives with defined success criteria. Serve as the data science domain expert for the team, raising the standard for baselines, validation, and evidence quality across ML engineers and cross-functional partners. What You’ll Bring to the Team: 5+ years of experience in data science or a related quantitative domain, including hands-on ownership of model evaluation and measurement for systems running in production. Experience defining evaluation frameworks for ambiguous ML problems, including baseline selection, offline and online metric design, and validation strategies where ground truth is imperfect Strong SQL proficiency and comfort writing production-quality Python for statistical data processing. Fluency in metrics and measurement for consumer software products, and comfort working with cross-functional partners to translate business needs into technical plans and vice versa. What You'll Do: Lead and develop a 12-person team, coaching a tech-lead manager and senior engineers. Own the engineering roadmap for Strava's social features and set a high bar for quality and velocity. Partner with Product and Design to define and deliver the social product vision. Make sound technical trade-off decisions, staying close enough to the detail to guide the team well. Grow the team through thoughtful hiring and by developing the talent you already have. Keep the team's systems fast, reliable, and scalable as Strava's community grows. What You'll Bring To The Team: A product-engineering background, with strong product sense informing your engineering decisions. Technical depth you keep current — you may not write production code day to day, but you stay in the weeds and make confident technical calls. Experience managing managers and senior individual contributors. A track record of setting high expectations and leading with agency and urgency. Experience with social, community, or consumer-engagement products is a plus. For more information on benefits, please click here . Why Join Us? Movement brings us together. "description": "
We are looking for a Staff AI Engineer to join the GenAI + Discovery Platform team at Strava, a team at the core of Strava's AI strategy, responsible for building the shared tooling that enables product teams to ship high value GenAI-powered features at scale. This role sits at the intersection of AI engineering, platform engineering, and server engineering. You will own the systems that make it easy and reliable for all of our product teams to build user facing features on top LLMs at Strava, from shared context, tool management, agent loops, orchestration, data access, search and retrieval to evaluation and ROI frameworks. This is a high-leverage technical role: you're not just building infrastructure, you're building the core understanding of athletes that enable consistent athlete experiences, insight across product surfaces. You'll work closely with product engineers, product managers and data teams to translate cutting-edge AI capabilities into production-ready platforms that facilitate development of AI features that provide value to our athletes. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half your time on-site in our San Francisco office — three days per week. What You'll Do: Build for a Well Loved Consumer Product : Work at the intersection of AI and fitness to launch and optimize product experiences that will be used by tens of millions of active people worldwide. Build the GenAI + Discovery Platform : Set the vision, Design and the shared genAI platform: LLM, and workflow orchestration, prompt management systems, RAG pipelines, search and retrieval services (vector, hybrid and structured search), and evaluation tooling Enable Teams to Ship AI Features Faster : Build self-serve interfaces and golden paths so that product and CUJ engineering teams can build GenAI-powered features without deep AI expertise. Own End-to-End AI Capability Delivery : Drive projects from architecture and interface design through production deployment and monitoring, ensuring correctness, latency, reliability, and cost-efficiency of the AI capabilities your platform serves. Collaborate Across Engineering, and Product : Work closely with engineers and PMs across different verticals to enable the new features and build the genAI roadmap. inform product teams on how to consume and leverage AI capabilities effectively. Build from a Rich Dataset : Explore and use Strava's extensive unique fitness and geo datasets from millions of users to inform how AI capabilities can extract actionable insights, improve product decisions, and power novel athlete experiences. You Will Be Successful Here By: Treating AI Platform as a Product : Bringing engineering rigor — versioning, contracts, SLAs, monitoring, and deprecation paths — to AI capabilities and LLM integrations that product teams depend on. You don't ship a prototype; you ship a platform. Leading as an Owner : Taking end-to-end accountability for the reliability and impact of the systems you build, including their correctness in production, their adoption by downstream teams, and the business outcomes they enable. Building for Leverage : Designing platforms and tooling that multiply the output of the broader team, reducing the AI infrastructure expertise required for CUJ teams to ship GenAI-powered features. Collaborating Across Disciplines : Working fluidly with ML engineers, data engineers, data scientists, and product managers to align on model selection, evaluation standards, prompt strategies, and consumption patterns. Raising the Standard : Helping establish best practices for GenAI system development, responsible AI patterns, and operational health, and mentoring teammates at all levels to do the same. Being passionate about the work you are doing and contributing positively to Strava's inclusive and collaborative team culture and values. What You'll Bring to the Team: 5+ years of experience building and operating complex, production AI or backend systems at scale, with a track record of decomposing large technical problems into well-scoped execution across teams. Demonstrated experience building AI platform tooling or developer-facing infrastructure ideally for LLM or ML systems with a strong instinct for API design, versioning, and self-serve patterns. Hands-on experience building with large language models in production: agentic workflows, prompt and context engineering, RAG architectures, embedding pipelines, fine-tuning workflows, or LLM evaluation frameworks and tools like Langchain . Proficiency in search systems (Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, Vector Search, etc) Proficiency in backend service development on cloud environments (AWS preferred), using Python, Go. Solid understanding of distributed systems and containerized infrastructure (Kubernetes, Docker). Strong technical leadership: ability to lead multi-team projects, define technical direction, and grow engineers at multiple levels. Deep curiosity about the evolving GenAI landscape: model capabilities, agent frameworks, multimodal systems: and strong judgment on where and how to apply them to real product problems. Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to align cross-functional partners around technical direction and build organizational trust in the platforms your team ships. "description": "
About Strava Strava is the app for active people. No matter your sport or how you track it, Strava’s got you covered. Find your crew, crush your goals, and make every effort count. Start your journey with Strava today. Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward. About This Role: Strava is hiring an Engineering Manager on our Subscriptions team. This team owns Strava's payments and subscription platform, both the infrastructure and the user-facing products it powers. We're looking for a technical manager who still writes code and wants to grow a small team of backend engineers while owning some of Strava's most critical systems. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office, three days per week. What You'll Do: Lead a team of server engineers building Strava's subscription and payments backend, systems that power how millions of athletes subscribe, pay, and manage their subscriptions. Own the technical roadmap for payments and subscription infrastructure. You'll partner closely with product and engineering leadership on priorities, balancing platform investment, reliability, and delivery. Drive both platform and product work. Your team owns our subscription infrastructure and the user-facing products it powers. Stay hands-on in the codebase. You'll write code, own technical designs, and make architecture decisions alongside your team, not just review them. Hire, develop, and retain engineers at multiple levels. Coach people through career growth, give direct feedback, and build a team that gets stronger over time. Keep payment and subscription services reliable and healthy. You own on-call, incident response, and the operational bar for your team's systems. Partner cross-functionally with product, design, accounting, and marketing to identify the highest-leverage work and ship it. Treat ownership seriously. Your team's systems handle payments, billing, and subscription state for millions of users. You take reliability, correctness, and incident response personally. Grow your engineers. You'll manage people at different career stages and help each one develop, whether that's getting someone to senior or helping a more experienced engineer take on larger technical ownership. Build for the long term. You make pragmatic tradeoffs between shipping now and investing in the platform, and you can explain those tradeoffs clearly to partners. Stay technical. You're not managing from a distance. You have informed opinions on system design and you can unblock engineers by jumping into the code. Make the team better. You care about how the team works, not just what they ship. You'll fix what's slowing people down and build processes that stick. What You'll Bring to the Team: 5+ years of professional software development experience in backend engineering. 2+ years of engineering management experience, or demonstrated tech lead experience where you were already doing the job of coaching engineers, driving technical direction, and owning delivery for a team. Proficiency in at least one of Strava's backend languages (Ruby, Java, Scala, Python, or Go). Experience with distributed systems and production infrastructure (MySQL, Redis, Kafka, Kubernetes, or similar). Experience with, or genuine interest in, payments, billing, or subscription systems. A track record of helping engineers grow through direct feedback, mentorship, and sponsorship. We'd love to talk to you about the future of Strava’s core technologies and your role in developing them For more information of benefits, please click here . Why Join Us? "description": "
About this role: We are hiring a Lead Marketing Analyst to be a key member of the Marketing Analytics team. The team is focused on measuring paid and organic marketing performance and impact to Brand Awareness, MAU, Registration and Subscription growth. You will collaborate with Brand Marketing, Growth Marketing, Community Partnership Team, Design and leadership to accelerate learning, make data-informed decisions, and define data-inspired solutions to fuel the growth of Strava’s platform. This role reports to the Marketing Analytics Manager and partners tightly with cross-functional stakeholders throughout the company. The role has high visibility, and is an exciting opportunity for someone enthusiastic about delivering the wow to a company hungry for actionable data insights! We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our New York office — three days per week. What You'll Do: Own brand media measurement planning and strategy, ensuring investments align directly with Strava’s brand marketing OKRs – proactively identifying and proposing strategic improvements to measurement frameworks across the team and key partners. Lead the application, governance, and reporting cadence of the brand measurement framework, working closely with Brand Marketing, Data Science and external agencies. You'll own the application and continuous refinement of our measurement methodology stack, making informed decisions that balance short-term reporting needs with long-term measurement objectives. Drive alignment across teams by gathering requirements from partners across the organization, collaborating to ensure alignment and maximize impact on measurement capabilities that complement their workflows. Deliver persuasive and data-driven media performance reviews, translating complex findings into clear, compelling narratives that inform and drive decisions at the weekly and monthly business reviews. Provide the “source of truth” for internal consumers by owning critical analytical reporting on metrics like aided brand awareness, familiarity, and consideration. You take ownership of these strategic initiatives and drive them forward with minimal guidance. Apply expertise in brand health surveys, including the statistics behind sampling and reporting results, to proactively identify and address gaps before they impact decision-making. Create and manage data pipelines from multiple sources, leading the design of scalable, performant ETL workflows that keep data accessible, fresh, and consistent — and mentoring teammates on technical best practices. Collaborate with Strava's broader data organization (Machine Learning, Data Platform, and beyond), demonstrating determination to collectively improve our technological craftsmanship, even when navigating ambiguous or complex challenges. What You'll Bring To The Team: You have 5+ years of full-time experience in analytics, data science, or other quantitative domains supporting growth marketing teams, and have a track record of independently executing large-scale measurement projects and initiatives. You have 3+ years of experience with performance measurement across paid and organic channels, including TikTok, Meta, Reddit, and similar platforms and can anticipate and evaluate risks and opportunities associated with cross-channel strategies to make informed recommendations. You have a track record of defining and building the key metrics and dimensions that accurately reflect user behavior and drive meaningful marketing decisions, proactively taking on challenging assignments and driving them to completion with strong organizational alignment. You are highly skilled in SQL, with extensive experience extracting large datasets and designing ETL workflows that balance performance and scalability, and you bring the analytical rigor to identify the right solutions to complex, ambiguous problems. You're proficient in quantitative programming languages like Python, experienced with Tableau, consistently seeking to initiate improvements to processes and tools that deliver superior results. You are comfortable operating in ambiguity — able to design the right test, identify the best proxy metric, or transparently frame uncertainty in a way that empowers decision-makers rather than stalls them. You bring deep technical expertise in brand measurement methodologies, including Marketing Mix Modeling (MMM), brand lift studies, and experimental design. You take high ownership of your work, collaborating proactively with partners across the business to ensure alignment, maximize impact, and drive continuous improvement. You're a strong communicator who can craft compelling narratives and ensure transparency by proactively sharing relevant insights that could impact projects or decisions. You consistently meet goals, keep projects on pace, and follow through on your commitments, demonstrating the ability to analyze and prioritize projects based on their potential impact and maintain momentum even in challenging circumstances. You are able to spot things in our data that others have overlooked, and are comfortable making recommendations that will help the broader team improve our self-service capabilities and ways of working. About This Role Payroll is one of Strava’s highest-trust, highest-risk functions: every employee across the globe depends on it being accurate, compliant, and on time. As Strava scales internationally and prepares for life as a public company, this role owns the integrity and scalability of global payroll across all entities and jurisdictions. Reporting to the Assistant Controller, you will own and run Strava’s global payroll function end-to-end across the US and EMEA entities, leading a globally-distributed team. You’ll build the SOX-ready controls, processes, documentation, and reporting that public-company readiness demands, partner closely with People Operation, Legal, and FP&A, and own the payroll and equity-compensation implications of the company’s path to IPO. This is a build mandate, not a maintenance role: the EMEA payroll platform is newly in place, the controls work is ahead of you, and leadership is invested in getting it right. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco or Dublin office, three days per week. What You’ll Do Own and run Strava’s global payroll function end-to-end across the US and EMEA, ensuring accurate pay, tax withholding, and statutory filings in every jurisdiction where Strava operates. Lead and develop two Senior Payroll Analysts across San Francisco and France, setting clear expectations and supporting their growth across a significant timezone gap. Build and own SOX-ready payroll controls, processes, and documentation; partnering with the Assistant Controller on audit support and public-company readiness. Own the payroll side of equity compensation as Strava moves toward IPO, including RSU vesting, ESPP, and mobility/shadow-payroll implications, in partnership with Legal and Equity. Partner with the GL team on payroll journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations, ensuring a clean and timely month-end close. Build strong cross-functional partnerships, working closely with People Operations and Legal teams, and managing external payroll vendors, with the judgment to know when to push and when to take a diplomatic approach to keep relationships and outcomes on track. Communicate with clarity and impact across the function and up to leadership, synthesizing complex payroll matters into clear recommendations, weekly updates, SOX documentation, and standard operating procedures, and representing payroll confidently in both written and verbal settings. Run payroll as a measured function: build and deliver regular operations reporting (accuracy, cycle time, exceptions, compliance SLAs) to Controllership and Finance leadership. Drive process improvement and automation across payroll operations, including practical use of AI tooling to improve efficiency and quality. Manage international payroll vendors and lead system implementations and optimizations as the function scales. What You’ll Bring to the Team Substantial experience owning global, multi-country payroll end-to-end as a function owner, across multiple entities and currencies. Direct experience with UK, France, Germany, and Ireland payroll alongside US is important. Experience leading and developing payroll staff, ideally a distributed team across timezones. Hands-on depth with payroll processing systems, plus experience managing international payroll vendors and running system implementations. Deep multi-jurisdiction payroll compliance knowledge across the US and EMEA, including payroll tax, statutory filings, and FLSA, with ownership of SOX payroll controls and audit support. A track record of building SOX-ready payroll controls and processes, not just operating within them. Experience through a company’s transition to public ownership, including the payroll and equity-compensation implications of an IPO. A clear understanding of the payroll/GL interface — journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and the close dependency with the GL team. A measured, data-driven approach to running payroll, with experience building operations reporting from scratch for finance leadership. Demonstrated, functional use of AI tools (such as Anthropic’s Claude) to make meaningful improvements to payroll efficiency or quality. Experience taking payroll from a startup operating model to public-company grade, or CPP certification, is a plus. Our mission is simple: to motivate people to live their best active lives. We believe in the power of movement to connect and drive people forward. About This Role Some of the most important problems at Strava don't belong to any one team. They're cross-stack, ambiguous, and high-stakes, and they need someone who can walk in, figure out what's actually going wrong, and drive the fix. This role exists to be that person. You'll report directly to a Senior Director of Product Engineering and join a small bench of exceptional individual contributors deployed against Strava's riskiest and least-understood technical problems. You'll think across client and server at the same time, move between initiatives as priorities shift, and bridge what's on fire today with what we need to build next. You'll also help drive change in newly integrated parts of the business, including our work with Runna. We follow a flexible hybrid model that translates to more than half of your time on-site in our San Francisco office, three days per week. What You'll Do Drop into ambiguous, cross-stack problems and diagnose what's actually happening before prescribing a fix Reason fluently across client and server systems to unblock high-priority product initiatives. You will work across iOS, Android, Go and Scala platforms.
