2014: Benchmarking with Global Leaders

- Richard Olivier, son of Lawrence Olivier, was awarded the BPI Leading Thinkers Award.
- Shannon Banks, Microsoft’s HR Director for Western Europe, received the BPI Best Practitioner Award for Global Leadership Development.
- Juliette Trollope of National Grid was given the Best Practitioner of the Year Award for Workforce Planning.
- A BPI Senior Executive Board working clinic was held at GSK House in London for members to share best practices.
2012: Industry Recognition
- Best Practice Institute was named “Best in Leadership Development” by Executive Excellence Magazine.
- The institute released its list of the 25 Top CEOs.
2011: Honoring Leaders
- BPI board members honored victims of the 9/11 disaster at the World Trade Center Memorial site.
- At the NYSE, BPI presented the Leader of the Year award to Frances Hesselbein, former CEO of Girl Scouts of America, and to Warner Burke.
2010: Continued Research and Recognition
- BPI announced its 25 Top CEO List.
- The institute visited Fidelity Investments and presented a thought leader award to Edgar Schein and John Kotter.
2009: Influential Research in Talent Management
- BPI visited Bank of America in Charlotte, NC, presenting the Leader of the Year award to Steve Reinemund, former CEO of PepsiCo.
- The institute surveyed over 32,000 executives to produce Best Practices in Talent Management with Marshall Goldsmith, later published by Jossey Bass.
2007: Expanding Research and Connections
- BPI surveyed over 20,000 executives to produce Best Practices in Leadership Development & Organization Change with Marshall Goldsmith, profiling 14 organizations including Intel, HP, and Motorola.
- The institute visited GlaxoSmithKline headquarters in London to present the Leader of the Year award to Sir Andrew Likierman, Dean of London Business School.
- BPI was invited as honored guests to the US Army War College in Carlisle, PA.
2006: Opening to the Public
- BPI opened its membership to the general public.
2005: Founding Members and Boards
- The BPI Thought Leader Board was formed with Marshall Goldsmith, Roland Sullivan, Warren Bennis, and Nathaniel Branden.
- Pfizer, Bank of America, Johnson & Johnson, and GlaxoSmithKline became the first corporate members of the Best Practice Institute.
- BPI introduced Best Practice Benchmarking studies and Peer Benchmarking for its corporate members.
2003: Foundational Publications
- BPI published the first edition of its Change Champion’s Fieldguide.
2002: Early Research in OD & Change
- BPI surveyed over 10,000 HR and OD executives, profiling over 20 organizations to produce Best Practices in Organization Development & Change with Marshall Goldsmith.
2001: Community Building
- In the wake of the 9/11 tragedy, BPI began building its community with students and executives in New York City.
1999: The BPI Systems Model
- BPI created the six-step approach for best practice benchmarking – the Best Practice Systems Model – with Richard Beckhard and Louis Carter for the publication Best Practices in Organization Development and Change.
1998: The First Best Practice Study
- BPI produced a study on High Potential Leadership Development with Warren Bennis in partnership with Linkage, Inc.
